You don't want to be driving I-80 westbound today (Thursday) as traffic is backed up due to a serious crash.

CBS2/Fox 28 reports that the Iowa State Patrol has confirmed that "a semi tanker was traveling the wrong-way on interstate 80 when the truck crashed causing the backup." The accident appeared to have taken place just west of West Branch and caused traffic delays for miles.

CBS2
/ Fox 28 that the semi tanker was heading eastbound when it lost control and crossed over into the westbound lanes, smashing through the cable barriers separating the east and westbound interstate lanes. Ludwig also stated that the semi "traveled for some time before colliding head-on with another semi." As you can see from the photo, I-80 westbound is completely blocked.

Law enforcement urges drivers to avoid the area if possible, but a detour has been set up at West Branch. There are no further details at this time, but we'll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
