[ORIGINAL STORY, 6/28/22, 11:51 a.m.]

It's hard to imagine why stories like this continue to happen. We're just thankful for people like the folks at Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) who can run to the rescue of animals who somehow continue to be still left in danger.

It's a reminder that the excessive heat we experienced last week is never far away this time of year.

KCCI says the ARL Mobile Rescue Team was called by local law enforcement in Pocahontas County in Western Iowa after discovering 30 cats and kittens alone, unattended, dehydrated, and in filthy conditions. Temperatures were in the 80s and 90s and the house had no electricity.

This part gets a little graphic but, the rescuers found trash and remnants of the cats' bodily functions (feces) on the countertops and floors in the house. While searching the scorching house with flashlights, the rescuers say they found many of the cats hidden in mattresses. The matter is still under investigation, but the cats and kittens are currently in the care of ARL's Miracle Medical Team.

The end of the Facebook post indicates that while ARL is working tirelessly to save animals left in these conditions, they are unfortunately becoming busier than they'd like and need your help.
