Iowa Basketball Losing Longtime Assistant

The Iowa men's basketball program is absorbing another loss, this time from it's coaching ranks. Andrew Francis, a top recruiter and longtime assistant coach under Fran McCaffery at Iowa has announced that he is leaving the school. This according to the Des Moines Register.

The Register contacted the University of Iowa Tuesday, and the school confirmed that Francis was leaving to take a coaching position at a different school. They did not specify which school, saying that final paperwork had not yet been filed. Francis declined to comment through a University spokesperson.

Francis becomes the first coach in Fran McCaffery's nine years at Iowa to leave for another position. The Hawkeyes had enjoyed the longest tenured assistant coaching staff in the Big Ten with Francis, Kirk Speraw, and Sherman Dillard having served under McCaffery since his hiring back in 2010. Francis also spent three years with McCaffery as an assistant when the two were at Siena.

Expect McCaffery to fill the position soon as the spring evaluation period for high school players is quickly approaching.
