Iowa Basketball Player’s Unique Good Luck Charm [WATCH]
The Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball team opened up their conference schedule yesterday (December 10) and had no issues defeating Wisconsin 87-65. The Hawkeyes dominated the 2nd and 3rd quarters, outscoring the Wisconsin Badgers 49-30 in the middle portion of the game.
The Hawkeyes are off to an incredible start as they've earned an 11-1 record to begin the 2023-2024 season. Caitlin Clark scored her 3,000th point last week and I said this then, I'll say it again. I really don't believe there's a team in the Big 10 that can beat the Hawkeyes when they're playing their best. There can always be an occasional upset but this team is clearly the best in the conference.
Not only do they have one of the best players in college basketball, but they also have a secret good luck charm that you might not know about. This possible good luck charm comes from transfer student and starting point guard, Molly Davis.
Molly Davis Good Luck Charm
The Midland, Michigan native transferred to the University of Iowa in May of 2022 and she brought a little bit of home with her. If you've watched the Hawkeyes play, you've likely noticed her wearing this good luck charm. She's worn this special headband in every game she's played, since her sophomore year of high school.
In the first photo of the Instagram post from Sh3GotGame, you can clearly see the headband Molly is wearing is black. In the video portion, she's holding a white headband. She loves this headband so much that during games when the Hawkeyes wear black uniforms, she covers her good luck charm in black tape, so she can wear it whether the Hawkeyes are playing at Carver-Hawkeye Arena or they're on the road.
It's worked out for her and the Hawkeye basketball team! Molly was a 3-year starter at Central Michigan and scored 1,438 career points while at CMU. This would make her the 12th-best scorer in that program's history, according to Hawkeye Sports. In 2021, she was a member of the All-MAC First Team, in 2020 and 2022 she was part of the All-MAC second team, and during her freshman year, she made the All-MAC Freshman Team.
Not too shabby for a 5 foot 7 point guard who earned her opportunity to start for one of the best women's college basketball teams in the country. This headband has gained a bit of popularity, at least on social media. There's been a Twitter account named "Molly Davis's Headband" that has 1,370 followers.
I think the saying is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The Iowa Hawkeyes will host Cleveland State on December 16th and it would be a pretty safe bet you'll see Molly on the court with her favorite good luck charm.
