Iowa’s Best High School Basketball Player, Hawkeye Commit, Suffers Injury
Sports aren't always about winning and losing as we were reminded last night. The high school career of the best boys basketball player in Iowa came to a terrible end due to an injury.
Iowa basketball commit Josh Dix of Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln (CBAL) was injured in his team's victory over Le Mars Friday night. The game was ended by officials after the injury to Dix, with CBAL ahead 52-33.
It's been widely reported that Dix suffered a broken leg. The severity of the injury was clear from a tweet from Council Bluffs Scanner.
The outpouring of support for Dix was almost immediate.
Dix gave his verbal commitment to the Iowa men's basketball program in September.
He signed his national letter of intent with the Hawkeyes in November.
Dix is a 6'5" senior who was averaging 20.4 points per game going into last night's contest. He also averages 7.6 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game. Dix is also the team leader in steals and blocks.
When Dix signed his national letter of intent with Iowa in November, Iowa men's basketball coach Fran McCaffery said,
Josh is incredibly versatile. He can play multiple positions. He has a great frame. Josh is good with the ball in his hands finding people and getting to the rim. He’s physical defensively and is an excellent rebounder for his position. Josh is a winning player. We are really excited about him.
According to HawkeyeSports.com,
Dix is a two-time first-team all-conference selection and Council Bluffs' City Player of the Year. He was named third-team all-state his sophomore season and was first-team all state for the 2020-21 season. The three-time all-conference academic honoree passed 1,000 points in his high school career last year.
We join everyone in their well wishes for a quick, and complete recovery.
