Iowa Derecho Resource Center Still Going Strong

Let's take a minute to reset on where we can get resources as we recover from the August 10th derecho.  The City of Cedar Rapids says several resource centers in the community have closed. In their Facebook post, they say "Metro High School, St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Ladd Library, Taylor Elementary School, and the Northwest Recreation Center have been closed. The sites were set up to provide emergency storm relief following the derecho. Residents can continue to find information about services at CityofCR.org or by contacting United Way 2-1-1.

Meanwhile, a page called The "Iowa Derecho Resource Center" has been up and running on Facebook and with a physical location. They moved from their previous location on Armar Dr. but the need is still great for volunteers and supplies Their Facebook page is still up and running for residents to share information and offer services, and their headquarters is now at a new location, 4001 1st. Ave SE (next to Outback Steakhouse).

Drop by and offer what you have or pick up what you need. Iowa's News Now reports their greatest current needs are:

• Volunteers (All day)
• Gatorade/Juices (individual bottles/pouches)
• Canned Fruit/Individual Fruit Cups
• Granola Bars
• Bread
• Bleach
• Ice
• Fresh Produce

Is transportation to the location an issue? Text them and they will get you what you need. That number is 319-432-9754. They will be able to hook you up with supplies and opportunities to help, including debris cleanup.
