Iowa is known to have the best of the nation's top-notch teaching professionals, and it's always a good thing to see that get officially acknowledged on a national level.

Three Eastern Iowa and one Central Iowa educator got awarded Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Deborah Little teaches in the Denver, Iowa Community School District. Maria "Gabby" Granadillo is a teacher at McKinley Middle School in Cedar Rapids. Both won the Excellence in Mathematics teaching awards.

For Science, it was Katie McGrane at Margaretta Carey Elementary School in the Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District, and Mike Todd of Ames High School.

The awards are the highest given by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Congratulations to these fine educators.

We're proud of our teachers in Iowa and would love to give them a nod of recognition of our own. If you'd like to nominate a "Top Teacher" in Eastern Iowa for a Half-Price Books gift card and Collins Road Movie Theater Passes, tell us about them here.
