A very deadly year on Iowa roadways continued over the Labor Day weekend, with four people killed.

Four people were killed in accidents across Iowa from Saturday through Monday, September 2 through 4.

Two People Killed in North Central Iowa

Two people were killed in a 2-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon in Wright County.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was following a 1995 Ford F-150 that was traveling eastbound on 330th Street just before 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The motorcycle attempted to pass as the pickup made a left-hand turn onto Ida Avenue. The Harley-Davidson hit the rear bumper of the truck.

52-year-old Eric Gustafson of Thompson, Iowa was driving the Harley-Davidson. He, and his passenger, 48-year-old Mindy Chandler of Waukee, were killed in the crash. The driver of the F-150 was not injured.

One Person Killed in I-380 Accident

A crash along I-380 Monday morning left one person dead.

The Iowa State Patrol says a vehicle was southbound on I-380 just before 6:30 a.m. on Labor Day (Monday, September 4) when it left the interstate. It vaulted into the air, landing on 330th Street, the Brandon exit.

The vehicle then burst into flames. The driver's name has not been released. The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.

One Dead in Washington County Accident

A Fairfield woman was killed in a 2-vehicle accident in Washington County Monday (September 4) afternoon.

A 2005 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on Highway 1 just after 4:30 p.m. Monday afternoon when it crossed the center line, striking a northbound 2015 Nissan Altima.

The Iowa State Patrol says 76-year-old Ann Gary of Fairfield was the driver of the Toyota. She was killed in the accident. The driver of the Nissan, 22-year-old Walker Ikerd of Brighton, was not injured.

Iowa Traffic Fatalities This Year Alarmingly High Compared to Recent Years

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, 258 people have been killed on Iowa roadways this year, through Monday, September 4. That's 38 more than at this time last year, which was the highest total in five years through that date. This is obviously a trend we need to reverse. Please drive safely.
