Between COVID-19 and the derecho that hit Eastern Iowa back in August, 2020 has been a heck of a year!

Now that we've reached mid-September, we are happy to report that kids in the area are finally going back to school after a six-month-long summer vacation. Depending on the school, some kids are able to go back to in-person learning, some kids are doing online classes, and some are doing a combination of the two. But, regardless of how kids are going back to school this fall, one thing remains the same: parents are still sticking with their tradition of taking first day of school photos.

We have seen an endless number of back-to-school photos on social media these past few weeks, but since the Cedar Rapids Community School District officially started classes this week, we thought it was finally time to ask you to send yours in to us! We received a TON of submissions. Some of the photos appear totally normal, but others include tree debris, masks, and pajamas! We picked out some of our favorites from the bunch, starting with a photo from KHAK's Brain of his three kids. They all attend Marion schools and have been doing a combination of in-person and at-home learning for the past couple of weeks. Here is that photo and some others from parents right here in Eastern Iowa:
