Iowa Football Game Moved To Friday Night in October

"Friday Night Lights" is usually a phrase reserved for a night when communities passionately rally around their high school gridiron squads, but Iowa football fans will have to figure out how to divide their loyalty between their favorite high-school student-athletes and their black-and-gold college gridiron heroes. Thank goodness for DVR and phones with streaming.

The game at Maryland, originally scheduled for Saturday, October 2, will now be played the night before, on Friday, October 1, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. on FS1.

According to Black Heart Gold Pants, head coach Kirk Ferentz says he's not a fan of Friday night games. This is only the second one the Hawkeyes have played, after doing so last year against Minnesota. They now have two Friday games this season, including the traditional Black Friday matchup against Nebraska, which is a daytime kick-off. They point out the "competition" with high school football on Friday night and slightly less practice time as disadvantages, but this time, the Hawkeyes won't be the ones trying to navigate fans into a rescheduled game on their own home field.

The last time Iowa played Maryland in College Park was in 2014 when the Hawks lost 38-31. As the schedules stand now, at least we don't have to worry about the frequent conundrum of Iowa and Iowa State having their respective games scheduled opposite each other that weekend.
