Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced at her morning press conference that there were 740 positive COVID-19 cases in the state of Iowa for the 24-hour period ending Thursday, April 30 at 10 a.m. *The numbers released are always 24 hours behind.

According to the Ottumwa Courier, the 740 cases are easily the most confirmed cases in the state in a single day. The previous high was 648 on April 25. The total cases in Iowa now stands at 7,885 since the outbreak began. Both Black Hawk and Polk counties now have nearly 1,200 confirmed cases, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health.

In Friday's press conference, the governor revealed that 516 of the day's 740 cases came from a combined four counties. They are Black Hawk, Dallas, Polk, and Woodbury. It was also revealed that 85 percent of the day's positive tests came from the 22 counties that remain under tight restrictions. The other 77 counties in the state had their restrictions loosened today.

Eight more Iowans have died from the virus, bringing the total in the state to 170. The new deaths are from Bremer County (1-elderly), Linn County (2-both middle-aged), Muscatine County (2-one older adult and one elderly), Polk County (2-both elderly), and Scott County (1-middle age). There have now been 45 deaths in Linn County, 37 in Polk, 16 in Muscatine, and 13 in Black Hawk County.
