According to the Des Moines Register "Free Drop Billy finished 16th in the Kentucky Derby on Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville."

Free Drop Billy is owned by the Albaugh Family Stables in Ankeny. The Des Moines Register story noted this was the sixth time an Iowa horse has competed in the Kentucky Derby.

Weather played a huge factor in Saturday's race. It was the rainiest Derby on record. The favorite, a horse named Justify, won the race. Good Magic took the place money and Audible came in third.

I think it's cool we had a horse from Iowa in the big race. I hope next year Billy can improve and join the ranks of Zach Johnson and Kurt Warner as Iowa champions!

The next two big races part of the Triple Crown are right around the corner. The Preakness race will happen on May 19th, and the Belmont Stakes will be on June 9th.
