Iowa Is One of the Happiest States in America
It may not seem like it with everything going on right now, but a new survey puts Iowa in the Top 10 Happiest States in America!
To determine their rankings, WalletHub compared the 50 states across "32 key indicators of happiness", including the depression rate and the positive COVID-19 testing rate to income growth and the unemployment rate. It shows you how reslient Iowans are in the face of tough times that between a pandemic and a derecho, we still managed to come in 8th place out of the 50 states. It might be that these statistics were compiled before our lives were getting torn apart, but we'll take it.
A few of our most notable rankings among those "32 key indicators of happiness" include 3rd place in "Long-Term Unemployment Rate", 4th place in both "Fewest Coronavirus Restrictions" and "Volunteer Rate", 6th in "Safety" and 8th in "Separation and Divorce Rate".
We were 6th in "Work Environment" and 15th in "Emotional and Physical Well-Being". Not too shabby.
Only two of our Midwest neighbors joined us in the Top 10: Minnesota at #3 and North Dakota in 7th. See where all 50 states ranked in the graphic below.
