This CAN'T be true!

Happy National Tequila Day! To celebrate today's holiday, the website Zippia decided to figure out which states drink the most tequila. I was shocked when I saw the results. Before we get to those, we should probably explain how they got their data. The article says:

"In search of how many bottles of tequila are consumed each year, we used data from Vinepair. The data shows the number of tequila bottles per adult that are devoured annually across the country."

This study says that out of all 50 states, Iowa is number 46. We apparently only drink .42 bottles of tequila per adult each year. To me, this just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. We have about a million Mexican restaurants here in Eastern Iowa, and almost all of them serve a killer margarita. That's one of the best reasons to visit a Mexican restaurant! You're telling me that with all those delicious, tequila-filled margaritas, we're one of the bottom five states for tequila consumption? I'm sorry, but I just don't believe it.

The only Midwest state to make the top 10 was Missouri, and they just barely made it. They were number 10 on the list, with .81 bottles consumed per adult each year. The rest of the top 10 includes:

  1. Nevada
  2. Colorado
  3. Arizona
  4. California
  5. Maryland
  6. Texas
  7. New Hampshire
  8. New Mexico
  9. Alaska

In the bottom 10 we have:

  1. Pennsylvania
  2. West Virginia
  3. Utah
  4. Indiana
  5. Iowa
  6. New York
  7. Alabama
  8. South Dakota
  9. Vermont
  10. Virginia
