[ORIGINAL STORY] Authorities in Iowa are searching for a suspect as they continue to investigate a horrific crime. They believe one woman set another on fire early this morning and also struck the woman in the face, while she was on fire.
According to KTIV, it happened at approximately 4:30 a.m. this morning at New Visions Homeless Services, a homeless shelter in Council Bluffs. Emergency personnel from the Council Bluffs Fire Department and officers from the Council Bluffs Police Department arrived at the scene to find Christine Weilage, 37, in front of the shelter and suffering from severe burns. She was quickly taken to a hospital in Omaha, Nebraska for treatment. No update on her condition has been given.
The Council Bluffs Police Department (CBPD) says it is believed that Weilage and another Council Bluffs woman, 28-year-old Lindsy Maves, got into a disturbance in front of a nearby home. The CBPD says that it's alleged that Maves sprayed "a flammable substance on Weilage and then lit her on fire." While a witness tried to assist Weilage by putting out the flames, she was reportedly attacked again by Maves. The witness told police Maves struck Weilage in the face with an unknown object. Weilage was reportedly on fire at the time.
Council Bluffs law enforcement has been unable to locate Maves, who left the scene before officers arrived. Her picture is below.
