Its that time of year in college football. Announcements that come out of schools like Iowa are either early draft entrants, or players transferring. Iowa announced on Wednesday that redshirt sophomore quarterback Peyton Mansell was entering the NCAA transfer portal.

The native of Belton, Texas saw action in five games in 2018, but didn't see the field for the Hawkeyes in 2019. Redshirt freshman QB Spencer Petras passed him on the depth chart. Mansell's career stats at Iowa included completing 5 of 8 passes for 83 yards and an interception. He also ran for 31 yards and one touchdown.

Iowa's depth chart at quarterback is set to be wide open with the graduation of three-year starter Nate Stanley. Mansell was set to be in competition with Petras, redshirt freshman Alex Padilla and incoming freshman Deuce Hogan when he arrives in June. Now it appears that Petras is inline to be the starter for the Hawkeyes when they take on UNI September 5th.
