Iowa State to Allow 15,000 Fans at Final Home Game

The Iowa State men's football team is having a spectacular year. But it's 2020, and many of their fans have been denied the chance to see them live.

So it's welcome news released today that up to 15,000 Cyclones fans will be allowed into Jack Trice Stadium for the final home game against West Virginia on Saturday December 5.

According to the Cyclones and the Des Moines Register, Iowa State Athletics Director Jamie Pollard said the decision to allow fans to return was made after discussions with university leaders who agreed following a review of the state and local COVID positivity trends and hospitalization rates.

It's been decided that the university will resume its COVID attendance policies for this Saturday’s football game against West Virginia. Those policies will also be in place for  Sunday's Iowa State's women's basketball game vs. South Carolina and the Cyclones men's basketball game against DePaul.

An average of about 13,500 Cyclone fans have attended previous football games at Jack Trice Stadium earlier this season.

The decision to allow fans to return comes at a time when concerns about the spread of Covid-19 over the holiday season could lead to a surge of additional infections.

With safety the first priority for all, it's hopeful that careful fans can both celebrate with the team and stay healthy at the same time.

Following a huge victory over Texas on Saturday, the Cyclones are now 7-1 in the Big 12 and 7-2 overall. A win over West Virginia this Saturday will assure the Cyclones a shot at the Big 12 Title Game on December 19.
