Reading can be challenging to get kids to do (unless it's the 90's and it's a Pizza Hut incentive) but one Iowa school has a sweet way to help one of its students who was struggling to read.

At Wallace Elementary in Johnston, a young man named Eric Matheson was having difficulty with reading. He couldn't meet his benchmarks. But Eric loved to take care of and show off his sheep.

Wallace Principal Suzie Pearson met the young man halfway and gave him incentive: if he could meet his reading goal then he could bring his sheep to school. Done.

The school says Eric has been reading a full hour every night, even sometimes to his sheep.

As the semester is getting ready to wrap up, Eric has hit his reading goal. On Monday, the school held up its half of the bargain and Eric got to bring all six of his sheep to school and show off to the Wallace students.

“I have been into sheep since the 2nd grade,” Eric said. “I’m just one of the only people in the entire school that’s participating in farm animals and livestock, and I wanted them to see what farm life would be like.”

Eric's sheep are named Mocha, Hershey, Cocoa and Snickers, and he also has Isabella and Peanut. He also brought 3 to 4 month old lambs for the students to meet- Jenny, Johnny, and Jasmine.

The sheep are kept on a farm in Marshalltown and Eric competes in about 10 shows each year. Congrats Eric!
