It's one of the strangest headlines you'll ever read, but that's exactly what happened on Sunday.

A woman was shopping for groceries Sunday morning at the Hy-Vee store in the 2500 block of East Euclid in Des Moines when things turned violent.

According to KCCI, at about 10 a.m. Sunday morning, police were called to the store due to the report of a shooting. WHO-13 reports that two women got into a verbal argument at the checkout line.

The Des Moines Police Department says 30-year-old Kapri L. Francis (above) was one of the two women who got into the disagreement. She allegedly physically attacked the other woman who then fired one shot, hitting Francis in the leg.

After viewing surveillance video from the store, and talking to witnesses, Des Moines police did not charge the unnamed woman who shot Francis. They say she was legally carrying the gun and that she used it for self-defense.

In addition to Francis being shot, the single bullet that was fired apparently ricocheted and struck a male customer in the foot. Neither of the injuries was life-threatening.

Francis was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury. She's being held in the Polk County Jail where she was taken Sunday after being treated at a Des Moines hospital.

Des Moines Police Sergeant Paul Parizek talked about the large police response to the incident afterward. He said,

"We’ve certainly got a high level of awareness and preparedness for these things. And when we hear something like this happen we treat it like it’s the real deal. And I think you saw that response up there today. There was a heavy police presence, responding with the thought that we need to save people."
