It was a safe bet this week that our elected officials would take a step closer to explore the reality of bringing legalized sports gambling in Iowa.

According to the Gazette, four pitches were given to Iowa legislators in meetings this week, and it's no surprise many are interested in advancing the possibilities of bring legal sports betting to Iowa.

And why not? It's revenue for business, the government and (for the most part) fun for participants.

Representatives from the Iowa Lottery, along with area casinos, professional sports teams and horse racing officials brought their ideas up to lawmakers in meetings to best determine how to craft the best policies into something that works for everyone.

Sen. Roby Smith, R-Davenport, who chairs the Senate’s state government committee said “Today was a great first step in the process: listening to Iowans, listening to stakeholders, hearing the pros and cons from the four different proposals out there”

So what do you think?  If sports betting gets the OK , who should run it? Casinos, the Lottery commission or a new entity?

If you have strong feelings one way or another about any of this, now is the time to tell your state representatives, so they know what you'll support any why.

Place your bets and let the games begin.
