Those commercials recommending gold as a good investment are EVERYWHERE. These days, everyone is searching for the (real or proverbial) pot o' gold. In an era of insane inflation, everyone is looking for a way to protect their money and make more. For one group of treasure hunters in Iowa this weekend, the search was on, near Albion in Marshall County.

According to KCRG, they didn't expect to find anything that would make them insanely and instantly rich, but it's the search that makes it fun, according to this group of prospectors out searching for gold near Albion, Iowa in Marshall County.

This gold hunt over the weekend was organized by the Iowa Chapter of the Gold Prospectors Association of America, but there's no real value to the treasure they were out looking for on Saturday. Group members Brian Bailey and Jennifer Ream said the gold hunt is mostly a great way to get outdoors and spend time with other people.

You ever heard of the Gold Rush in Iowa? There’s a reason. It’s a hobby.

So unless you're like them, and just in it for the fun of it, they don't suggest setting your sights too high--or quitting your day job.

To put it in perspective, in the decade or so he's been prospecting, Bailey has found about a half gram of gold. The odds of hitting it rich seem better by scratching lottery tickets or playing the Mega Millions. Or unfortunately, going to work.
