A 13-Year-Old’s Podcast Is Changing How Politicians Communicate
In an era of unprecedented information access, politics can still be difficult to understand. More often than not, that's on purpose. A skilled politician can sound intelligent and yet not say anything of substance. Enter-13-year old Colin Weber from Carthage Illinois.
Carthage, Illinois - Hancock County Seat
Colin has a passion for informing people in a way that they can understand. Communication is a skill, and the Hancock County teen wants to make sure Illinois politicians aren't only heard, but their words and concepts are understood.

Political speeches can get lost in rhetoric, catchphrases and cliches meant to sway voters views or mirror the positions they already hold. Plain spoken politicians can be viewed as boring, but clearly stating a position without deflections and distractions is all too rare these days.
The candidates and elected officials that Colin has had the opportunity to sit down with for his podcast and YouTube channel come across as more relaxed, and because he’s 13, they tend to explain things on a more basic level. Have you ever wanted a politician to dial it down and explain things so that a grade school student could understand? This series is that. Colin has recently interviewed Illinois gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey, Illinois Lt. Governor candidate Aaron Del Mar and several other political figures from Illinois. Hopefully the other Republican candidates for Governor, including Ted Dabrowski, Max Solomon, Joseph Severino, Rick Heidner, and others take the time to sit down with Colin, and simplify things for kids and voters who long to understand things better.
Illinois State Capital Building - Springfield
This concept of the young interviewer could help those who feel lost in a fast-paced 21st- century political news cycle that is going 24/7, understand more clearly the issues and differing positions of the candidates. More of this please.
