One week. That's how long it took for Iowa senior guard Bennett Stirtz to set a new career high in points for the Iowa men's basketball team. It turned out Iowa needed every single point in its win over Northwestern on Sunday.
Iowa Men Win Sixth Straight Game
The Hawkeyes continued their hot streak in Big Ten play, notching their sixth straight win, 76-70 over Northwestern at Carver Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City on Sunday. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the Wildcats may only have 2 conference wins, but they led much of the first half before Iowa took a 39-35 lead at the half.
A New Career High for Bennett Stirtz
Iowa's star guard continues to lead the charge for Iowa. The Gazette reports that just one week after scoring a then-career high 32 points, Stirtz went off for 36 points against the Wildcats, including 22 in the second half. Tavion Banks added 13 points for Iowa. The Hawkeye defense did a job on Northwestern's Nick Martinelli. The Gazette reports that the Big Ten's leading scorer had 21 points on just 6 of 19 shooting.
Hawkeyes Hit the Road Later This Week
Iowa improves to 18-5 on the year, and 8-4 in Big Ten play. The Gazette reports that Ben McCollum's crew will hit the road and play at Maryland on Wednesday.
