Iowa Band WILL Play at Halftime of Citrus Bowl

It looks like public pressure has worked as the Iowa Hawkeye Marching Band will be allowed to play at halftime of the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl! The announcement was made earlier this morning on the bowl game's official Facebook page.

It appears that Gavin DeGraw will also still perform, but at least they are making time for both bands to play on January 1st! We can't wait to see both bands perform! LET'S GO HAWKS!!

As if this Iowa Hawkeye football season needs any more controversy, it appears that the folks at the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl have angered the University of Iowa Marching Band. Why? The bowl game isn't allowing them to play during halftime of the Iowa vs. Tennessee game on January 1st.

As a matter of fact, neither marching band is being allowed to play at halftime of the Citrus Bowl. That honor is reserved for recording artist Gavin DeGraw. According to a Facebook post from the page Hawkeye Heaven, the marching bands will only be allowed to perform during the pregame, and not during halftime. As you can imagine, this has the members of the Iowa marching band up in arms and asking Iowa fans to share in their displeasure.

I agree with drum major Christian Frankl. The marching band members work their tails off to perfect their performances each year. While I understand bowl games looking to add talent to attract viewers, shouldn't they be more concerned about keeping Iowa and Tennessee fans happy? As an Iowa fan, I'd much rather see and support the marching band than hear Gavin DeGraw sing the one song I remember from him. It's college football...LET THE BANDS PLAY!
