St. Patrick's Day isn't the only holiday being celebrated in Cedar Rapids this week! Thanks to Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell and the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, March 19th (or 3-19) has officially been given a new title: Buy 319 Local Day!

What's Buy 319 Local Day?

Since 319 is the area code for the Cedar Rapids area, March 19th has been named a local holiday as a way to celebrate and highlight the local businesses that play a vital role "in our economy, neighborhoods, and community." Cedar Rapidians are encouraged to prioritize shopping and eating at locally-owned businesses and restaurants as a way to show support.

What's the Special Gift Card Deal?

Starting yesterday (March 17th), the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance is offering a buy-one-get-one (or BOGO) deal on Buy319 gift cards. The organization writes:

"... when you purchase a Buy319 gift card, you will receive a bonus card worth 50 percent of your purchase. Buy a $50 card and receive a $25 bonus card. Buy a $100 card and receive a $50 bonus card. You can keep them both or share the love with someone else. It is a simple way to support local businesses."

The BOGO deal is only available through March 19th, so be sure to get yours before time is up! You can read more about the cards and how they work HERE.

Where Can I Use the Gift Card?

There are more than 30 businesses and restaurants in the area that accept the Buy319 gift cards. The list includes:

For the record, I recently used a Buy319 gift card to place an online order at O's Grill via my Apple Wallet, and it was just like using any other debit/credit card. Super simple.
