Fight at Downtown Cedar Rapids Bar

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Cedar Rapids police were called to Hazzard County American Saloon at 402 2nd Ave SE, at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Officials say that the fight started inside the bar before carrying over out into the street. The Gazette reports that one police officer received minor injuries, and that nine people have been arrested on charges that include public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and interference with official acts.

City Officials Want Answers

Cedar Rapids Mayor Tiffany O'Donnell told the Gazette, "This type of behavior is not acceptable, period." She went on to add that a handful of people will not define downtown Cedar Rapids. O'Donnell added that she met with Cedar Rapids city leaders on Monday, to further discuss how the city can work to prevent violence and disruptions, according to the Gazette.

Mayor O'Donnell also stated that the city won't "wait around for trouble." The Gazette reports that they have reached out to Hazzard's owners and hope to talk and find a way to prevent anything similar from occuring in the future.
