A Cedar Rapids company has announced plans to lay off over 30 workers this spring.

The Corridor Business Journal reports that Pearson has planned layoffs that will take effect June 1st, according to a notification posted to the Iowa WARN website. According to the notification, 37 employees will lose their jobs. The CBJ reports that a Pearson spokesperson replied to an email inquiring about the layoffs saying,

Pearson is committed to serving the evolving needs of our customers, and that often requires us to adapt and change. We don’t expect these changes to impact our operational excellence in Iowa. Pearson continues to hold a presence in Cedar Rapids and Iowa with hundreds of colleagues committed to serving students, educators, and school districts.

The CBJ reports that Pearson states that they have "offered ample notification/voluntary resignation opportunities, generous severance packages, and outplacement services" to help those affected by the layoffs. The CBJ points out that Pearson also cut 50 positions in December of 2022 and closed its Iowa City office.
