10 Acre Dog Park Coming to Cedar Rapids City Park
A Cedar Rapids city park is going to the dogs. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the Cedar Rapids City Council voted in favor of a plan that will see a new dog park incorporated into Jones Park.
What Will Be Included in the New Dog Park?
According to the Gazette, the $1.8 million project at Jones Park will include a general dog socialization area, a small dog space, and two dog training areas. The off-leash dog park is part of ongoing efforts to revamp the now-closed Jones Park municipal golf course. The project was identified through a community survey on what else should be done with the park.

When Will the Dog Park at Jones Park be Open?
City officials told the Gazette that they hope to award a construction contract for the project by this fall, with the goal of the new dog park being open by the fall of 2026. Once completed, the new park will span nearly 10 acres. The $1.8 million project will be funded through the city's capital improvement planning budget.
Can Anyone Use the New Dog Park?
Once completed, Jones Park will be the city's fourth dog park, according to the Gazette. Just like with those other parks, visitors will have to register for city-issued dog tags to clear their pets to use the facility. A yearly permit costs $42, and a daily pass is $6.
The new dog park will be the latest amenity added to Jones Park. Also added in recent years were 10 new pickleball courts, disc golf, and a remodel of Jones Lodge.
