Downtown Cedar Rapids Restaurant Shutting Down to Relaunch
A downtown Cedar Rapids restaurant open for less than two years has closed its doors. But the move is only temporary as it prepares to rebrand and open again soon.
Downtown Cedar Rapids Restaurant Closes
The District CR opened in downtown Cedar Rapids in July 2024. The Italian fusion restaurant opened in the historic Sokol Gymnasium at 415 3rd Street SE. The building opened in 1908 and was added to the National Register for Historic Places in 2013. The restaurant announced on May 1st that it would be closing and would reopen with a new name: Fork With It Kitchen and Bar.
What Changes Are Being Made?
According to a Facebook post, Fork With It will move away from the upscale feel and instead lean into a casual, come-as-you-are atmosphere. A more laid-back dining experience can also be expected. So what about the food? The post says that some favorites from the previous menu will remain, but a new menu will drop later this month. Better price points are also promised.
The interior of the restaurant will also change a bit, with new lighting, new paint, and of course, the new restaurant logo.
The post goes on to say that the month of May will be about trying new things and figuring out weekly specials. Once the restaurant re-opens, reservations are recommended on weekends.
