Some local area rescues could use your help!

Just yesterday (December 4th), our friends at Last Hope Animal Rescue in Cedar Rapids made a pretty big announcement. They revealed that they teamed up with S.A.I.N.T., another local rescue, to save 20 cats from a severe hoarding situation. The Facebook post reads:

"The group that we pulled into safety today bring the total pulled from this Linn County residence to approximately 75 cats in all, Cedar Valley Humane Society helped the sheriff with the initial trapping of animals on the property within the last few weeks."

According to an article from KCRG, the rescues are still looking to save 20 more cats that are still on the property.

Last Hope is asking for the public's help with some of the expenses that come with taking in such a large number of animals at one time. They are looking for donations of the following items:

  • Clumping Cat Litter
  • Paper Towels
  • Tall/Kitchen Garbage Bags
  • High-Quality Canned and Dry Cat Food

Once the rescued cats are examined, Last Hope will be looking for volunteers to help with animal care, as well as fostering and adoption. They said that many of the cats appear to have been spayed/neutered, but they will all need flea treatment, de-wormer, vaccines, and additional testing. The post adds that, "many of these cats are friendly young adults [and] we are hopeful that they can find loving indoor homes, but anticipate that a few of them will be seeking caring outdoor homes that have barns or a shop type setting to offer shelter and care."

If you'd like to make a monetary donation to help out the rescued kitties, you can visit Last Hope's official website HERE. Donations can also be sent to their location at 1823 16th Ave SW, Cedar Rapids - 52404. You can get the latest updates from Last Hope by following them on Facebook HERE.
