Iowa Grocery Store Offering The $47 Inflation Busting Holiday Meal for Thanksgiving

Picture this, In 1621, in Plymouth Massachusetts, the Pilgrims arrived. Unbeknownst to them they came ashore on Wampanoag land.  These were not the first settlers the Wampanoag encountered.  They did not trust the English but entered into agreements to keep peace.

Had it not been for the Wampanoag, the English settlers would have died from starvation.

They shared knowledge about hunting and planting that saved the Pilgrims from a horrible fate.  With a successful harvest behind them.  A group of Wampanoag and some English people gathered together to celebrate.

It is now thought of as the first Thanksgiving but historians say, they didn't use the term Thanksgiving.

When did Thanksgiving become Thanksgiving?

The federal Thanksgiving holiday came about during the Civil War.  President Abraham Lincoln issued his Thanksgiving Day proclamation to help unite a war-weary nation.  It was not the first Thanksgiving proclamation but his order set the precedent to 'observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving.

Here we are again in 2024, getting ready for Thanksgiving.

The shopping list includes a Butterball turkey with spices and gravy, you had me at gravy. rolls, then you had me at rolls, it's a theme, mac & cheese, extra got me there, stuffing, plus ingredients for cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, and pumpkin pie.
