An Iowa woman has died while hiking at Glacier National Park in Montana.

According to a press release from the National Park Service, an Iowa woman has died from injuries she suffered after she tripped and fell while hiking along the Highline Trail at Glacier National Park, according to KCRG. 

The news release states that at approximately 11 a.m. last Wednesday, park staff were made aware of a female who had fallen off the Highline Trail. KCRG reports that while hiking with a large group, the woman tripped and fell off the edge of the trail and out of sight from the rest of her hiking party. The press release stated that the Going-to-the-Sun Road was closed from Logan Pass to Big Bend for an hour to conduct a search and recovery.

KCRG reports that air rescue located the woman, who had succumbed to her injuries after falling roughly 450 feet. She was transported back to the Apgar horse corals and then to the Flathead County coroner.

The victim has been identified as 73-year-old Diane Bunker of Muscatine, Iowa, according to KCRG. Glacier National Park thanked first responders and asked for privacy and respect for the victim's family. An investigation continues.
