Cedar Rapids Bicycle Bar Officially Reopens Under New Management
The Loose Chain is BACK! The closed bar off of Center Point Rd NE in Cedar Rapids is now open to bicyclists once again!
What Happened to the Original Loose Chain?
The Loose Chain first opened its garage doors in Cedar Rapids back in July of 2023. The former auto shop was transformed into a bar for Iowans passing through on the nearby bike trail. After two years in business, the popular pit stop suddenly closed up shop late last summer, leaving folks wondering what would be taking its place. Then, last month (May 2026), it was revealed that The Loose Chain was being replaced by... The Loose Chain!
What's Different About the New Loose Chain?
In addition to new management, The Loose Chain has also made a few upgrades these past few months. The exterior of the building has been painted black, there's a brand new "larger, live-edge, horseshoe bar" from Hazel Oak Farms out of Homestead, and the outdoor patio area with additional seating has returned. I drove by over the weekend, and the place was packed!
When is it Open?
On June 4th, The Loose Chain announced on their new Facebook page that the bar at 1731 Center Point Rd NE is officially open for business. The hours listed on the page are:
- Monday from 12 p.m. to midnight
- Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to midnight
- Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.
As far as parking goes, the bar is reminding customers to NOT park in the neighboring parking lots during those business' hours (Detail Cleaning, Jazzercise, Cedar Rapids Hearing Center, Rock Valley Physical Therapy, Sinclair, etc.).
