I’m Signing Up to Become a Member of the Marion Police Department!
This morning, I am considering signing up to be a member of the Marion Police Department. Why would I decide on making such a drastic career change at the age of 51? Because it would be for the first-ever Marion Civilian Police Academy!
Marion Police Offering Civilian Academy
CBS2 reports that the Marion Police Department is offering its first-ever Civilian Police Academy this fall. It will give members of the community an inside look at how police officers do their jobs and how the department serves the community. If you've ever wondered what it takes to be a cop, this is probably as close as you're ever going to get!
What Will Civilians Get to Do?
Over the course of nine weeks, participants will get to learn about patrol operations, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, emergency response, and more, according to CBS2. The program will give residents a chance to meet and interact with officers and command staff from the Marion Police Department.
12 years ago, I took part in the Marion Fire Department Civilian Fire Academy. It was an eye-opening experience that showed what firefighters go through on a daily basis. We even got to gear up and put out a fire in a burn trailer!
How Do I Join the Marion Civilian Police Academy?
CBS2 reports that classes will be held for nine consecutive Wednesday nights from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. beginning on September 2nd. To take part, you must be at least 18 years of age, pass a background check, and commit to attending all nine sessions. There will only be space for 20 applicants, and preference will be given to Marion residents. The cost of the academy is $20.
