The End of Kum & Go Stores Moves Closer to Iowa
In 2023 the Kum & Go Company was purchased by Utah-based Maverik, known for its Adventure First-themed convenience stores. After the purchase, it was decided that the Kum & Go brand would be retired and Maverik stores would take its place. That transition is now getting very close to ending Kum & Go stores in Iowa.
The Des Moines Register reports that the end of Kum & Go is inching closer to Iowa as Maverik has announced that all Kum & Go stores in the state of Missouri will be re-branded as Maverik store locations by the end of the summer. According to Kum & Go's website, there are 57 stores in Missouri.
The Register reports that there was some uncertainty about when Kum & Go stores would transition to Maverik, but the company confirmed in November that it was "in the process of rebranding Kum & Go stores, with the intent to unify our entire combined footprint under the Maverik brand."
So far, Maverik has not provided any timeline for the rebranding of the 97 Kum & Go stores located in Iowa according to the Register. Kum & Go was founded in Hampton, Iowa in 1959. The first convenience store debuted in 1963 selling both fuel and merchandise. The name Kum & Go was adopted in 1975. Soon, it will be a thing of the past.
