How do you make a margarita even better? You combine it with ice cream!
Over the past few months, a new beverage trend has been taking over TikTok and Instagram, and it's all thanks to a Midwest Mexican restaurant. Called 'Soft Serve Margaritas,' the delicious drinks are a combination of margaritas and soft serve ice cream, a perfect summer treat!
According to the Des Moines Register, the Soft Serve Margarita trend caught on thanks to La Playa Mexican Restaurant & Mariscos, a business located in Cleveland, Ohio. In March, the restaurant started showing off their Soft Serve Margaritas, which the Register describes as "a creamier, more dessert-like twist on the frozen margarita." And yes, they do contain alcohol (although some places are offering non-alcoholic versions).
The Des Moines Register found that Burger Shed in Altoona began serving their own version of the Soft Serve Margarita this spring, but several other Iowa restaurants have jumped on the trend, too! Here are some of the local places that have recently started serving them, according to their social media pages:
Boulder Tap House, Ames/Ankeny/Cedar Rapids/Mason City
Hernandez Mexican Bar And Grill, Ankeny
Azteca 3, Bettendorf
Mextizo, Cedar Rapids
RioBurritos, Cedar Rapids
El Patron Authentic Mexican Cuisine, Des Moines
Las Margarrita's, Dubuque
La Casa Street Tacos & Margaritas, Indianola
Tulum Mexican Cuisine, Iowa City
Fiesta Mexican Restaurant, Pleasant Hill
