With the uncertainty surrounding the future of SNAP benefits for millions of Americans, major grocery chains have elected to provide some support. Hy-Vee made a six-figure donation to help feed local families. Similarly, another grocery store with a heavy presence in Iowa has pledged its commitment to a new initiative that looks to fight food insecurity in the communities in which they're present.

Fareway Stores, Inc. announced a new initiative that will last the entirety of November. Customers can help those in their own community through a variety of ways that Fareway has designed in order to be both convenient and cost-effective.

Fareway Makes it Easy for Customers to Help:

Per Fareway's press release, there are three ways customers can help:

  • Pre-Bagged Donations: Customers can purchase pre-bagged, wholesome, SNAP-eligible food items at any Fareway location. These bags will be distributed directly to local food banks or pantries near each store.
  • Individual Item Donations: Shoppers may also choose to donate individual food items of their choice.
  • Monetary Contributions: Every Fareway check stand will accept donations, with every dollar going toward purchasing wholesome food products for nearby food banks or pantries.

Fareway is Matching All Monetary Donations:

Fareway has committed to matching all monetary contributions in value throughout the month of November too. Every dollar customers donate will go twice as far, as a result. Reynolds Cramer, CEO of Fareway Stores, Inc, issued a statement to go along with the company's press release:

At Fareway, our ‘Lead with Love’ mission is more than a motto—it’s a movement. We’re deeply grateful to our customers who join us in supporting those who need it most. Together, we can make a meaningful difference - Reynolds Cramer, CEO of Fareway Stores, Inc, per the company's press release
