
Former Quad Cities Sportscaster Dies Unexpectedly
A local legend in the Quad Cities, known for his sports commentary and analysis across multiple platforms, has passed away at the age of 75.
Jim Albracht's death was confirmed by the Quad City Steamwheelers on Twitter. The Steamwheelers are a team in the Indoor Football League (IFL) that have been active since 2018. They play their home games at the Vibrant Arena at The MARK. Albracht served as a play-by-play announcer, director of media relations, and host during his time with the team.

Bill Michaels, one-half of the radio duo Dwyer & Michaels, which can be heard on Eagle 102.3 FM in Dubuque, took to Facebook to remember his colleague.
Albracht served as a sportscaster and radio host for the Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers, per Michaels. Part of the Iowa Hawkeye Radio Network, he did play-by-play for the Steamwheelers, and lived in Kansas City with his wife.
Albracht was also a long time sportscaster and radio host, worked at WOC, and was a radio broadcaster for the Hawkeyes and Packers, according to a Facebook post from Bill Michaels. When he worked as a sportscaster for WQAD, he even interviewed Chicago Bears football legend Walter Payton.
