I kid, of course, but that last thing you’d see while at one of the busiest airports in the world is someone getting engaged.

That’s exactly what happened, though, as Robert Schnetz, who met his now fiancée, Sarah Doss, at Chili’s inside O’Hare International Airport, proposed.

Schnetz met Doss while in a layover at that very same restaurant in 2023. I, too, have dined and had a few beers at that very same Chili’s, and I didn’t get engaged.

Ah, well, Schnetz made up a story about needing to go to Chicago for a work trip and convinced Doss to ride along. Little did Doss know Schnetz was calling in friends and family from Los Angeles to fly into Chicago, then set up a slideshow on airport screens, arrange live music, and decorate the Chili’s where the pair first met.

Down on One Knee at the Gate: The Moment It All Clicked

The confused Doss looked like she didn’t know what was going on when they arrived at the eatery, but then Schnetz got down on one knee and popped the question.
