Less than two weeks ago, I jokingly opened an article by saying "If you ask me, 'Ottumwa Man' is quickly earning the reputation in Iowa of being what 'Florida Man' is to the United States."

In that article, I detailed an assault that took place in the southeast Iowa city where the victim claimed the assailant -- Jay McIntosh -- tried to "forcibly detach his genitals from his body."

In June of this year, a woman attacked her neighbor with a machete in this same town of roughly 25,000.

This week, the city's reputation has somehow gotten worse.

As shared by KCRG, police were called at 1:13 AM on Wednesday morning "on a report that a female was shot with a crossbow." It took place in the area of the 300 block of Evergreen.

Authorities said the injuries the woman sustained were minor and she was treated and released from a hospital. She was shot while asleep on the couch in her shared residence. Court documents obtained by KCCI say that the arrow was shot into "her hand while she was sleeping — narrowly missing her head."

The Des Moines-based news station shared that local police identified the victim as 68-year-old Lillian Dennison.

Allegedly, the person she shares the residence with is the one who fired the crossbow.

Around 10:00 AM on Wednesday, Lillian's husband George was arrested "near the wooded area around Evergreen and Mable." Apparently, the couple had been fighting just hours prior to George firing the crossbow at his wife.

KCCI continues, saying that he is being charged with "attempted murder, domestic abuse assault, and aggravated misdemeanor."

Currently, George is being held in the Wapello County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
