The Disrespect is Real for the Iowa Hawkeye Women’s Basketball Team
The Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball team will look VERY different heading into the 2024-2025 season.
Several key starters graduated from the University of Iowa, including Kate Martin, Gabbie Marshall, Molly Davis, Sharon Goodman, and of course, Caitlin Clark, the greatest woman's college basketball player of all time. When you lose key pieces like this and one of the greatest college basketball players of all time...it creates a lot of questions heading into the next season.
It's not only these key players the Hawkeyes will need to try and replace this upcoming season, Lisa Bluder will not be the head coach of the women's basketball team for the first time in 24 years. In May, Lisa spoke about her decision to retire as she ended her career with 884 wins, which puts her at the 10th most in women's college basketball history, according to Big Ten.
Longtime assistant head coach, Jan Jenson, will take over the Head Coaching title this upcoming season and how that changes the program's future, only time will tell.

Despite these massive changes to the women's basketball program, are they being completely disrespected in the preseason Big 10 polls?
The best part about the "pre-season polls" is they literally mean nothing. They are generalized predictions made by people who haven't seen 1 second of basketball for this upcoming season.
They have no idea if a player is ready to become a star or if a player who hasn't played much in previous years is ready for a breakout season. For all we know, Taylor McCabe, Jada Gyamfi, or Kylie Feuerbach could have the best season of their college careers.
CBS Iowa caught up with the 2024-2025 women's Hawkeye basketball team and asked some of the current players what they thought about the preseason polls.
Taylor McCabe - "Oh, I was shocked. I was so surprised actually. But I think that's just another bit of fire and truthfully, we've had a target painted on our back and we've been everyone's Super Bowl game for both years that I've been here. I think it's going to be more fun to take on a bit of an underdog role."
Jada Gyami - "We believe in our circle and our team. Coach J has been saying all year that we got next. I think people forget that a lot of the time, we were also a Big 10 contending team before Caitlin got here. We have all the right tools to get back there."
Kylie Feuerbach - "That kind of puts a little fire under you and makes you a little upset and angry but in a good way. It makes you even more driven than you already were."
There's no denying this team will look different heading into the upcoming season but that doesn't mean these women can't help lead the University of Iowa to another incredible season. That's one of the best things about sports. The games aren't played on paper.
Yes, they've lost some incredible leaders and amazing players but that means there's a new group of ladies who can take on some bigger roles and help lead this Hawkeye group. What would a successful season look like to you? After back-to-back championship appearances, it might be tough for these Hawkeyes to get back a 3rd time but you never know! That's what March Madness is all about.
