Iowa is Home to Two of the Cheapest Grocery Stores in America

A lot of Iowans are feeling the financial pinch when shopping for groceries. Costs are up, and for many people, that means buying groceries can be a real pinch financially.

Grocery Costs Continue to Rise

It's an expensive time to shop. Grocery prices are rising at a historical rate, according to the USDA.

• Overall food prices may rise by about 2.9%, which is actually close to the normal yearly increase.

• Grocery store prices (food-at-home) could go up around 2.1%.

• Restaurant and takeout prices (food-away-from-home) are expected to rise more, about 4.0%.

With that in mind, it's always nice to be able to save money, especially when feeding a family.

The team at Delish did some research and found the cheapest grocery stores in the US. Iowa is home to two of them.

Iowa Has Affordable Grocery Options

Wherever you shop for groceries, you're likely able to snag a good deal. But when it comes to overall consistently lower prices, two chains that Iowa has, and several we don't, take the (discount) cake.

The two cheapest are Aldi, which has a large number of Eastern Iowa locations.

And Trader Joe's, which we currently have only two locations in Iowa.
