Suns out, drinks out!

I know that's not exactly how that saying goes, but there's something about enjoying your favorite adult beverage on a beach, boat, or porch as you soak up some sun. July is the warmest month of the year and is also when we reach peak summer weather in Iowa.

If you're spending an afternoon day drinking with your family and friends or you plan on going out on a Friday/Saturday night, I'm curious what your go-to drink is. I'd be willing to bet that most people who drink alcohol have a favorite or a couple of favorites that they usually stick to. Sure, you might try something else from time to time but if you could only have 1 type of drink for the rest of your life, what would it be?

For a lot of Iowa beer drinkers, the answer is Busch Light. More Busch Light is shipped to Iowa than any state in America. That's why I'm a bit confused about this 'study' of each state's signature drink.

The selection for Iowa does look delicious but after asking a bunch of co-workers what their guess would be for Iowa, no one chose this drink.

Iowa's Signature Drink

According to Stacker, Iowa's signature drink is a Frozen Blue Water Margarita. The drink contains tequila, Cointreau, and lime. The blue color comes from Blue Curacao. The study claims that "West Okoboji Lake is one of Iowa's biggest claims and the naturally blue lake is so beloved that it inspired Iowa's signature drink."

Do Iowans like margaritas? Sure! Hundreds of them are probably drunk daily in Iowa. If you drink alcohol, you've probably had a margarita or two in your life but would you consider this to be Iowa's signature drink? I'm not sure I've even seen a Frozen Blue Water Margarita on a beverage menu in my 2 and half years of living in Iowa. I guess I'll have to start paying closer attention.

The study supposedly used state websites, news, culinary profiles, and historical reports that helped tie each beverage to each state.

Midwest Signature Drinks

The study doesn't simply list each state's signature alcoholic drink. They're talking about any kind of drink. For example, there are 19 states where milk is claimed as their signature drink. Illinois favorite drink is supposedly Jameson irish Whiskey. Minnesota is one of the 19 states that choose milk. Wisconsin's signature drink is Brandy old fashioned.

The state of Indiana has the signature drink of...Water. This had me laugh out loud after reading it. How can a state claim water, which is drunk in every state, every day, in America?

Our neighbor to the south signature drink is Budweiser. Anheuser-Busch is an iconic American brewery that began in St Louis, Missouri, so this answer seems to fit.

I'm just not 100% sold on the studies selection for Iowa...What do you think? What would you consider to be Iowa's signature drink?
