Fatal Shooting in Waterloo: One Dead, Two Officers Injured

There was a startling situation out of Waterloo over the weekend.

According to a report from the Waterloo Police Department, one person is dead, and two police officers are injured after an incident early Sunday morning.

On Sunday, June 30th at 8:22 AM Waterloo Police were called to the 200 block of Manson to respond to a report of a man with a gun.

Waterloo officials claim that the investigation into this incident resulted in an officer involved shooting.

The exchange took place at the 1200 block of E 4^th Street and resulted in the death of one man (the suspect in the initial call), and two Waterloo officers being shot.

As of Monday morning, the deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Kelvin Lee Plain, Jr.

The suspect fled on foot and made his way through Sullivan Park, according to reports. Officers fired a taser at him, which caused him to hit the ground. Plain reportedly fired his handgun at the police officers, and both officers returned fire.

Officials confirm that the officers who were injured were transported to a local hospital.

According to reports, the officers are in stable condition and are expected to survive.

The mother of the deceased in this incident allegedly went down to the scene and talked with Waterloo authorities as well as the city mayor.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is being put to work to investigate this incident.

The names of the police officers involved have not been released to the public at this time. No other details regarding what transpired on Sunday morning to lead to this altercation are known to the general public either.
