John Deere Layoffs Loom Over Iowa Plant
Many of our fellow Iowans have fallen on tough times.
According to a report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and Radio Iowa, the unemployment rate for the month of January (2024) is at 3%.
This is slightly higher compared to the same time last year. From the looks of things, that number might just get a bit higher over the next few months.
John Deere Layoffs
Recent reports have revealed that the John Deere facility in Ankeny will be laying off a significant number of employees in the coming months.
Located at 507 South Ankeny Boulevard, this branch is set to lay off approximately 150 production workers this year.
According to officials, these employees mostly fulfill maintenance or production jobs.
Staff were notified that they would be facing a surge of ‘indefinite layoffs' by corporate earlier this month.
These notices will not happen right away. Different reports are confirming that these layoffs are set to take place throughout April and May.
Tyson Foods Factory Jobs on The Line as Well
This comes hot off the tail end of another major Midwest manufacturer announcing layoffs. According to reports, officials from Tyson Foods announced that they too would be laying off workers.
The plant in Perry, Iowa is set to shut down this summer.
Officials confirm that 1,276 workers in this town will be without a job.
