Hot Off of Steve McQueen’s ‘Widows,’ Jon Bernthal Joins Neil Armstrong Biopic ‘First Man’
Settle in, Jon Bernthal fans, we’ve got a double-header of news for you. Bernthal, who will be starring as the Punisher in his upcoming Netflix spinoff series, has just wrapped a role for Steve McQueen’s heist thriller Widows. Not only that, he’s officially joined up with Damien Chazelle’s Neil Armstrong biopic First Man, alongside Ryan Gosling and Kyle Chandler.
Deadline reports that Bernthal has wrapped his role in Widows, which is about a group of women who decide to pull off the heist their husbands got caught trying to accomplish. The film also stars Viola Davis, Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Rodriguez, Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Robert Duvall, Andre Holland, Carrie Coon, and Daniel Kaluuya, and while Bernthal’s role isn’t known, it’s probably safe to assume that he’s either one of the unfortunate heist victim husbands, or, given his penchant for playing scary, gun-toting types, perhaps one of the law enforcement officers who catches them.
Next up, Bernthal has First Man, which is scheduled to start shooting in Atlanta in November. Bernthal will play astronaut Dave Scott, one of the astronauts who was Armstrong’s partner on the Gemini VIII mission. He’ll also be back with Ben Affleck for the planned sequel to The Accountant.
