Judge Refuses To Drop Charges Against Chris Soules

A judge has refused to reconsider dropping charges against Chris Soules. Judge Andrea Dryer denied a request by Soules' legal team at a hearing on Monday.

The 36-year-old Soules is accused of leaving the scene of a fatal accident that claimed the life of 66-year-old Kenneth Moser. Soules drove his truck into the back of Moser's tractor, causing it to flip over into a ditch. Soules called 911 from the scene but left after first responders arrived. He was arrested at his home five hours later.

Soules' lawyers argue that Iowa's law requiring surviving drivers to remain at the scene of a fatal accident is unconstitutional. Soules also waived his right to a speedy trial meaning he won't go on trial until sometime after April.

Soules has pleaded not guilty. If convicted he faces a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison and a $7500 fine.
