UPDATE: After the story of Jayson Gonzalez being told by Krispy Kreme to stop selling their donuts he bought in Iowa back in his home state of Minnesota went viral, the donut company has relented and given the OK. Krispy Kreme called Gonzalez yesterday and offered him a sweet deal he couldn't refuse. He'll now operate as an independent operator and they even threw in 500 dozen free donuts. Now THAT'S a happy ending!

ORIGINAL STORY: What won't a college student do to make a little extra money? They'll even drive to Iowa, buy donuts, and then re-sell them in Minnesota. 21-year-old Jayson Gonzalez was doing just that, but now a donut company is telling him to please stop.

Gonzalez would drive every weekend from Minnesota down to Clive, Iowa and buy 100 boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts. He would then drive back the 270 miles and re-sell them to his customers in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. He charged between $17 and $20 per box. Why did he do it? Well, Krispy Kreme doesn't have stores in the state of Minnesota. They pulled out of the area around 11 years ago.

This weekend would have marked the 20th donut run to Iowa for Gonzalez, or The Donut Guy, as he is now known. But after his story appeared in a Minnesota newspaper, he got a call from Krispy Kreme's Nebraska office. Their message? Stop re-selling our donuts. They told Gonzalez it created a sales liability for the company. Krispy Kreme hasn't responded.

Gonzalez is taking the news in stride. He said in a Facebook post that he figured that the end would come eventually. He also said that this just means that "something else is meant to be."
