Country's Biggest Skate Park Opens In Des Moines
It's official...the country's biggest skatepark is now open for business. And if you're eager to get out and skate here, you won't have to go too far. It's actually right here in the Hawkeye State.
On May 7th, 2021 the state of Iowa became home to possibly the biggest skate park in the country. This project has been in the works for some time now. Lauridsen Skatepark in Des Moines opened to the public in early May with its ribbon-cutting ceremony. This is ahead of a major event called the Dew Tour starting on the 10th and concluding on the 27th.
The park will be closed to the public during this time period.
Located right next to the Des Moines River at the end of the Principal Riverwalk, this skate park might just be the largest in the nation. Not only will this be a skater's dream spot, but Lauridsen Skatepark will include the following: flow bowl, amoeba pool, snake run, and a promenade.
There's even a skateable art piece that you can check out, according to the park's website.
How are they going to fit ALL of that skate stuff into their park? Well, this skatepark measures at around 88,000 square feet. That's about FIVE acres of skateboarding.
