The magic of the holiday season is coming to Cedar Rapids as Lindsey Stirling brings The Snow Waltz Tour to Alliant Energy PowerHouse on December 9th, with special guest Arkai.
For more than a decade, Stirling has captivated audiences around the world with her unique combination of electronic violin, classical musicianship, dance and spectacular visual production. Her performances are anything but ordinary, and her holiday music gives her the perfect opportunity to bring that imaginative style to the stage.
The Snow Waltz Tour takes its name from Stirling’s holiday album Snow Waltz, a collection of Christmas classics and original songs that puts her unmistakable musical personality into the holiday season.
Following her 2017 holiday album Warmer in the Winter, Snow Waltz finds Stirling taking a more whimsical, cinematic and sometimes delightfully mysterious approach to Christmas music. Her version of “Carol of the Bells” from Warmer in the Winter made history as the only instrumental song ever to reach the Top 10 at AC radio.
On Snow Waltz, Stirling puts her own spin on familiar holiday favorites including “Joy to the World,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Little Drummer Boy,” “O Come Emmanuel,” “Feliz Navidad” and “Deck the Halls.”
Her interpretation of “Joy to the World” draws on Stirling’s love of Celtic music, while “Feliz Navidad” gets a flamenco-inspired treatment featuring guitarist and fellow performer Mark Ballas. “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” showcases Stirling’s frenetic violin playing and vocals, while “Ice Storm,” the album’s closing track, brings a heavier, rock-influenced sound to the holiday mix.
The album also features several original songs, including “Magic” with David Archuleta, “Crazy For Christmas” with Bonnie McKee and “Christmas Time With You” featuring Frawley.
That blend of music, movement, and theatrical presentation is what makes a Lindsey Stirling concert such a unique experience. Stirling is known for creating highly visual performances, and she approaches her live shows with the same creativity she brings to her music. That includes the elaborate costumes and unexpected elements of choreography and stage design.
